The two treatments could not be more different. Kybella is a procedure performed with a needle in which Kybella is injected into the fat to break the fat down. This treatment has no downtime and is non-invasive. Liposuction is an invasive procedure with significant bruising and downtime and a requirement for anesthesia. Liposuction may be needed if there is a severe excess of fat in the double chin. However, many patients with only a mild to moderate amount of excess fat in the double chin should be able to be treated with Kybella in a completely non-invasive manner.

5. What is recovery like for Kybella injections?

Patients may experience a stinging sensation for 10-15 minutes immediately after treatment. The most common side effects after Kybella injection are mild swelling and bruising. Patients may develop some redness and discomfort after the treatment session, which can last for a few days.

6. How long do results from Kybella injections last?

Results from Kybella should be permanent because once the fat cells in the treated areas disappear, they do not come back.

7. What do I do if I gain weight after using Kybella?

In the clinical trials leading to FDA approval, patients who received Kybella and then gained weight did not show return of their double chin. Therefore, there is nothing one need do if weight is gained after using Kybella.

8. Are Kybella injections painful?

Kybella treatments are not painful. Patients can have their double chins numbed with numbing cream prior to treatment to reduce any discomfort.

9. How long is a Kybella treatment?

Kybella treatments typically require about 15-20 minutes.

10. How many Kybella treatments do I need to see results?

Most patients will see a response after two treatments but some patients will require more treatments depending on the amount of fat that is present.
