Thermage CPT – The Next Generation of Thermage Treatment
The Santa Monica Laser and Skin Care Center is proud to announce that we have now obtained the next generation Thermage, called the Thermage CPT, and we are using it in our office.
The Thermage CPT offers many advantages over the original Thermage but its most important advantage is that it allows us to make many more passes over the tissues than we could make with the original Thermage. As a result, Thermage CPT treatments are much more effective than the original Thermage. For example, with Thermage CPT treatment of the face, we are now making eight to ten passes over the facial tissues instead of the four or five passes that we used to make. Similarly, with eyelid Thermage CPT treatment, we are now introducing 450 pulses into the upper eyelids instead of the 225 pulses that we used to give. As a result, these new Thermage CPT treatments are much more effective than the earlier Thermage treatments.
Like the original Thermage, there is no preparation required for Thermage CPT treatment, and the treatments have absolutely no down time. Patients can resume all of their normal activities immediately after leaving the office.
The Thermage CPT works by simultaneously heating and cooling the skin. It emits radio frequency energy to heat the collagen in the deeper layers of the skin while simultaneously protecting the top layers of the skin with a cooling spray. The heating action causes the collagen in the skin to tighten immediately. Over the next few months, the procedure also stimulates new collagen production, further enhancing the result.

Abdomen and Thigh Thermage CPT Treatment
Another major advance with the new Thermage CPT is its innovative 16-centimeter treatment tip. This new tip, which can only be used with the Thermage CPT, is over five times larger than the 3-centimeter tip that used to be used for treatment of the abdomen and thighs. As a result of this new treatment tip, abdominal Thermage CPT treatment can now be completed much more quickly and much more comfortably for the patients. For example, whereas an abdominal treatment with the original Thermage unit used to require approximately 1200 pulses and at least two hours of time, with the Thermage CPT and the new16-centimeter tip, the procedure can be completed with 300 pulses and in approximately one hour.
Abdominal Thermage CPT is most effective for patients who have mild to moderate laxity of the abdominal tissues as a result of either significant weight loss or childbirth. Patients considering abdominal Thermage CPT treatment should be within ten pounds of their ideal body weight. Following an abdominal Thermage CPT procedure, patients can expect their abdominal tissues to appear tighter. In addition to its use on the abdomen, the new 16-centimeter tip can also be used on the thighs to tighten and smooth the skin in the thigh and knee area. The procedure on the thighs is similar to that of the abdomen, and results in visible smoothing of the skin.
