Fall is here, but winter will be here before you know it. If you want to get a head start on gorgeous, smooth skin for the winter, now is the time to prepare! When it comes to anti-aging and skin care, the winter time can be a big challenge thanks to cooler temperatures, crisp winds, and dry air.
For many people, winter often brings dry and irritated skin. Without proper care of our skin, you’ll notice that your skin begins to dry out, feels tighter and becomes more sensitive. And when our skin is dry, our wrinkles become more noticeable and apparent. With a few anti-aging products and treatments, and a good skin care routine, your skin will be left looking smooth and radiant this winter. Here’s some of the best anti-aging skin care advice for winter weather.
Anti-Aging Skin Care Advice for the Winter #1: Stay Hydrated
Drinking lots of water in the winter can help your skin tremendously; You’re hydrating from the inside, out. On those cold winter days, we usually reach for something warm like coffee or hot cocoa and often pass on a glass of water.
If our body is dehydrated, our skin is going to directly reflect that. If you’re still craving something hot, try warm water with a slice of lemon in it; It’s a tasty and hydrating alternative that your skin and body will love.
Anti-Aging Skin Care Advice for the Winter #2: You Still Need to Wear Sunscreen
Just because you’re not out sun-bathing by the pool on a hot day doesn’t mean you don’t need to wear sun protection. Sunscreen should be an essential part of your skin care and anti-aging routine, year-round.
If you really want to protect your skin from the sun, apply at least SPF 30 on your face, neck, ears and around the eyes. Don’t forget to wear a lip balm with SPF in it too!
Anti-Aging Skin Care Advice for the Winter #3: Don’t Crank the Heat Too High
Brrr – we know it can get cold out there. When it’s cold outside, your first instinct is to rush to the heater and turn the heat up. But cranking the heat up in your home dries out the air. The drier the air, the drier your skin will become.
Another wonderful skin care tip for those with dry skin is to keep a humidifier in the house, especially in the bedroom. This will restore some lost moisture in the air and will nourish your skin.
Anti-Aging Skin Care Advice for the Winter #4: Skip the Long, Hot Shower
There’s nothing like a long, hot shower after a long day, especially in the winter. And while it may feel comfortable, you’re not doing your skin any favors. That hot shower is depleting your skin’s natural oils; Our skin’s natural oils are important for anti-aging.
You’ll notice a huge difference in your skin once you start taking shorter, less-hot showers. If you’re not ready to say goodbye to hot showers, limit yourself to 5-7 minute showers and moisturize directly after you shower, when your skin is still damp.
