Fraxel and Me: Why Fraxel Should Be the Next Step in Your Skincare RoutineWith so many skincare options (Botox, lasers, fillers, chemical peels, platelet rich plasma, etc.), it can be difficult for someone to know which treatment would be best. We would love to give you personalized recommendations for your skin (call us and schedule an appointment), but for many patients, the Fraxel laser is a great next step. This versatile laser can treat a variety of skin issues from brown spots to wrinkles to loose skin, and more.

What Is the Fraxel Laser?

Fraxel isn’t just a single laser – It is a family of lasers. We have several Fraxel devices available here at the Santa Monica Laser and Skin Care Center including: Fraxel Dual, Fraxel Repair, and Fraxel Restore. Each of these lasers can target specific skin conditions and problems. With so many lasers to choose from, one of the Fraxel devices will provide stunning results for nearly every patient.

Which Fraxel Device Should I Try?

Each Fraxel device targets different skin conditions and problems. Let’s take a look at the benefits of each device.

  • Fraxel Restore: The Fraxel Restore laser is a favorite of both Dr. Amerian and Dr. Anterasian. It is excellent for treating fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and other facial scars. Treatment is quick (about 30 minutes for the entire face) and recovery is rapid due to the fractional resurfacing technology this device uses. Patients have no downtime after the procedure, but will experience a bit of redness and swelling while they heal. Optimum results are achieved after a series of four or five treatments.
  • Fraxel Dual: The Fraxel Dual laser is designed for patients that want long-lasting skin improvement without downtime. Like the name implies, this device is two treatments in one. This laser combines the original Erbium based Fraxel Restore with a Thulium laser. The Thulium laser is excellent for removing brown pigment quickly while the Erbium laser improves skin texture, fine lines and scarring (including acne scars).  Generally, a series of three treatments are required to achieve optimum results.
  • Fraxel Repair: This laser is CO2 based rather than Erbium and Thulium based. It is intended for patients with more significant skin changes. The typical Fraxel Repair patient has more skin laxity and deeper lines and wrinkles.  This device can be used on the entire face or to target a specific area (like the upper lip or eyelids). It also improves pigmentation problems, fine lines and facial redness.  Although patients should be prepared for 5 or 6 days of downtime with this laser, they enjoy the advantage of completing their laser treatment in a single session.
