Juvederm vs. Juvederm Voluma: What’s the Difference?
We offer a variety of dermal fillers here at the Santa Monica Laser and Skin Care Center, including Juvederm and Juvederm Voluma. While both of these fillers share many similarities, there are a few differences. Let’s take a quick look:
- Juvederm– Juvederm is an FDA-approved hyaluronic acid filler that is used to soften facial lines, folds and wrinkles. It is also used to plump the lips. Juvederm can be used on its own or with other fillers like Juvederm Voluma. A single treatment with Juvederm lasts about 7-8 months in most patients and up to a year in some patients.
- Juvederm Voluma– Juvederm Voluma is the only FDA-approved hyaluronic acid filler specifically designed for restoring lost volume in the cheek area. It is used to lift sagging skin, enhance cheekbones, and restore youthful volume in the cheeks. This filler is injected deeper into the skin than Juvederm. Voluma is one of the longest-lasting dermal fillers and lasts for up to two years.
After Dermal Fillers
One of the biggest benefits of dermal fillers like Juvederm and Voluma is the ease of the treatment. The treatment starts with a short but thorough exam. The actual injections will take just a few minutes, and then you’re done. Both Juvederm and Juvederm Voluma are “no downtime” procedures. After injections, you can get right back to your regular activities. Go back to work, head home or stop by the mall for some shopping. It’s all up to you. The only things you’ll really want to avoid are exercise (just for the first day or so) and massaging the skin that just received treatment.
You may experience a bit of redness or swelling right after your injections. This can easily be covered with makeup. Any redness or swelling is temporary and will typically fade in the first couple of days. Some patients gently apply cold compresses to the area, which can reduce the amount of swelling they experience.
Results are seen immediately. We’ll help you figure out an injection schedule so that you can maintain your results.
