Rejuventating Other Parts of the Body With Fraxel

By now, most of our patients have become very familiar with Fraxel laser resurfacing of the face. Introduced in 2004 and now in its second generation, the Fraxel laser has become the gold standard for no or minimal downtime laser skin resurfacing. After a series of Fraxel laser treatments to the face, patients can reliably expect their skin to show improvement in fine lines, brown spots, acne scars, facial scars, and overall skin texture.

However, you may not be aware that the Fraxel laser is increasingly being used for skin rejuvenation in locations other than the face. In recent months, many of our patients have come to the office requesting rejuvenation of the skin of their neck and chest; other patients have requested rejuvenation of their hands and arms. As a result, we are now using the Fraxel laser to rejuvenatethe skin in these off-face locations.

Off-face Fraxel laser resurfacing works in the same manner as Fraxel laser resurfacing of the face. It uses the same technology (e.g. Fractional Resurfacing Technology)

The laser delivers a series of microscopic closely spaced laser spots to the skin. At the same time it preserves normal healthy skin between the laser spots. This preservation of healthy skin results in very rapid healing following the laser treatment. The skin responds to the laser treatment by generating new collagen during the healing process.

As a result of this new collagen, off-face Fraxel laser resurfacing improves fine lines and skin texture, reduces skin crepiness, improves brown spots resulting from sun damage, and gives the skin a more uniform color. Because the new collagen that is produced is actual living tissue, the improvement from Fraxel laser treatment is long lasting and should persist for years.

Off-face treatment with the Fraxel laser has no significant recovery downtime. There is no need for pain medicine after the treatment, as any discomfort from the procedure is minimal. Patients can return to work immediately after their treatment or the next day. In order to receive an optimum result, our patients are generally treated with a series of four or five Fraxel laser treatments at three to four week intervals.

In our office, Fraxel laser resurfacing is performed by Dr. Anterasian. He has performed over 500 consecutive Fraxel laser procedures involving the skin of the face, neck, chest, hands, and arms with excellent results. Regardless of which part of their skin is treated, our patients have truly enjoyed the smoother, more youthful, and rejuvenated skin that Fraxel laser treatment provides. As a result, Fraxel Laser Resurfacing has become the most common laser procedure performed in our office.

Any of our patients who wish to consider rejuvenating the skin of their chest, neck, hands, arms, or face are invited to call our office and make an appointment with either Dr. Amerian or Dr. Anterasian.
