Intense Pulsed Light / FotoFacial is a non-surgical solution for skin discoloration, including brown spots (also known as age spots and sun spots) and/or the redness of rosacea, broken capillaries, and spider veins. This gentle technology evens out skin tone and helps you look younger and more refreshed.

While nurses perform this treatment in many practices, at the Santa Monica Laser and Skin Care Center, IPL / FotoFacial is only done by our board-certified physicians, Dr. Amerian and Dr. Anterasian.

Candidates for Intense Pulsed Light – PhotoFacial

If you have dark spots or redness on your face, neck, or chest, this procedure can provide you with improved overall skin tone.

IPL / FotoFacial may not be recommended for patients with darker skin. It is also important not to have a tan for these appointments.

How PhotoFacial Works

Our office uses the newest generation of this technology, which emits controlled intense pulses of light to the outer layers of the skin. The treatment is non-ablative, which means that it does not damage the skin.

What to Expect During IPL / PhotoFacial Treatment

A cool gel is applied to the area that will be treated, and a handpiece that emits the light is passed over the skin. The treatment is well tolerated – it feels much like the snap of a rubber band.

Depending on the severity and area of discoloration, 3-6 treatments are usually required.

Results of Intense Pulsed Light – PhotoFacial

After completing the treatment program, your skin will be smoother, softer, more uniform in color, and more youthful looking.

There may be some temporary redness like a mild sunburn for a few hours after treatments, but no downtime is required after IPL / FotoFacial. All normal activities can be continued immediately after your appointments.

It is important to wear sunscreen when outside following these appointments because your skin will be more sun-sensitive for a few days. Plus, regularly wearing sun protection after the treatments will help to prevent a recurrence of dark spots, redness, and rosacea.

Our office is conveniently located in Santa Monica. Dr. Amerian and Dr. Anterasian see patients from greater Los Angeles, as well as Brentwood, Pacific Palisades, Bel Air, Beverly Hills, Manhattan Beach, Venice, Westwood, and Malibu.
